Frustration

I haven't been posting lately simply because my youngest and oldest children have decided they are going to be difficult. My youngest has had her 8th bday that she has been excited about since she turned 7. In our faith that means she gets to be baptized AND her first friend bday party. It has been chaos for over 8 days. This also includes a family field trip to a museum an hr away on dh bday 5 days after dd. So we've been doing lots of celebrating.

Then we had a field trip with our homeschool group and that was fun. The next day we dd's bday party with 18/ 5-10 yr kids(mostly girls) at our local gymnastics place.

So now that things are over with, I was hoping for a bit of calmness. Unfortunately, dd has decided she still doesn't want to settle. Not surprising, it just means that I'm going to have to relax and be patient with her.

And ds has been doing some "projects" in the month of Sept and Oct. Now that he's done I want some serious school work out of him. He's resisting which is driving me nuts. All I ask is for 4 to 5 subjects a day. He is graduated from hs, but he still has some studies to finish. So basically I'm stressed out because those two just have been resistant to me. ARGH!!

I need to change my ways

I think, instead of daily recordings, I need to stick to weekly ones. I'm just not always in the mood each day to post.

This past week has been very stressful, but for a good reason. Now you probably say, stress is good?! Well, the stress I'm talking about is because Sat Nov 5th my youngest child turns 8 and will be baptized ON her bday. So school work this week has almost been non existent for her. Thankfully big brother has stepped up and has helped to teach her with math. So math has been done along with night time reading. Thankfully she has an art and gym class as well as a science class during the week so those have been done. So I guess she's been doing ok.

My oldest, even though he's graduated, is still being required to do some basic studies until he leaves for his mission next spring. We've also been trying to encourage him to find a job. He's had a few temp ones here and there. One that lasted 4 weeks (3 days a week for 3 hrs) helping a gentleman with old paper work. He just recently applied for a job at our local library. With lots of older people looking as well, I'm trying not to be too hopeful. It would be nice if he got it, but who knows.

Oldest dd is faithfully doing her school work. She LOVES routine and is excited each day when I praise her. She doesn't always get stuff, especially math, but we've reached a great milestone this week. She's starting to really remember her times tables and that's BIG! I'm very proud of how well she is doing. She also loves researching minor things just because. I'm just amazed how her. She has also recently really had the desire to help out with household chores. Now keep in mind this is my 15yr who really shouldn't want to help but does. I had to take youngest dd to her science class yesterday, but also had many loads of laundry to do. I had started one load, and when we came back several hrs later she was just finishing. GREAT JOB SWEETIE!

So today dh has the day off. We're going to be doing some pre-birthday celebrating and preparing. Sam's club to pick up the cake and other food items for after her baptism. Dh hair cut, then a movie in the afternoon. Dinner at dd's choosing, then home to prepare for the big day!

So that's been our week and the busy weekend to come. :)

I've been bad

I haven't been really good about updating as I should. My youngest hasn't always wanted to do her school work and ds was busy with some video projects(finally finished) so school has been a struggle. Thank goodness next week will be back to normal school. Finally!!

The week of Oct 3rd

Monday we just went to the library to get our pick of books and DVDs for school. Came home and had lunch. Then ds went to his job. The girls and I just cleaned up and goofed around.

Tues did school in the morning. Then by 12 we were at art and gym for the girls. After art and gym we dropped off some kids we were watching.

Wed we did school at home. The older two did great. 7yr wasn't too keen on getting stuff done. She eventually managed to finish around 12:30.

Tomorrow is our weekly science class. Youngest dd really likes this class. I'm glad because they can do science projects and my house stays clean. :)

Friday, September, 9th, 2011

I've decided to date most of my posts, rather than always trying to come up with something catchy.

So today my 7yr has decided that she'd rather do her school work next to mom. Ok fine. As long as she's not laying all over me. She did ok, but got bored very quickly. I then let her do some times table on the white board. Funny girl was laying all over the couch while writing her facts down. What a monkey. :) The rest of the morning she spent watching a science website and then helped created her new calendar. It was help her know what the date and day are as well as the month. I also picked up a weather window clingons. She liked those. Hopefully she'll do better next week.

The older two did well. They usually do. They liked routine, 7yr does not. Should prove to be an interesting year.

Thursday, September 8th, 2011

Today started out as an ok day, then 7yr didn't want to sit and do her math sheet. Just one sheet. I told her she could have some fun math after her worksheet. 45 min later it was finally done, and it's only day 2 of sit down stuff.

Then I had her do some grammar and a math game online. She did well. Oldest 15 dd did her math, grammar and science before lunch. She usually does a good job. Then I had to take 7yr to her science class at a local homeschooling mom's home. She had a great time doing science experiments.

That was it for the day. Hoping Fri will be better.

School days

Well, we've finally officially started for the year. Yesterday we did 2 days in one. Library was in the morning. We picked up books and DVD's that we need for the week. Did lunch, then had our last park day since next week the kids start their art and gym classes.

Today we did our first sit down and worksheet day. Started out a bit shaky, but by noon the girls had covered 4 subjects, so that was good. I'm hoping the rest of the week will continue well.

Day one of our official school day

Today will be two days in one. Due to Monday being a holiday, we will head to the library this morning. Get our books and DVD's then head home for lunch. After lunch it will now be Tues and we will head to the park for our last park day. Tomorrow should be filled with more academics than today. Mondays will always be more relaxed.

Updating

We'll on Monday we went to the library. Checked out our books and DVD's . Home to watch them and have lunch. Oh Mondays are our library day so I probably won't post much unless I find a DVD or book that we're excited about.

Did some errands then home. Again, not much to post about.

Tues we did our devotional, then the kids did their math review. I'm hoping to get catch up work done by Tues when we really start, but we'll see. Then we went to the park for one of the last times since our art and gym classes start in 2 weeks on Tues.

Wed again devotional and math review. By next week I should have more to say.

A rough start

Well, this has been a rough start to getting ready for school again. So far we've had 1 whole week of good review. The 2nd week we got stuff done on Mon, but dh took Tues off so we went to the fair, then the older two had youth activities which dh was a chaperon and they didn't get home until 1am. So that put Wed out. There fore we only had Thurs and Fri left so we just stopped.

The following week I geared up to do more review and we all woke up Mon with colds. They pretty much lasted all week (mom included) so that week was out.

This past week we at least got in 3 days so that's good. Yesterday was dd's bday so we had the whole day to celebrate. And today we're all tired from all the walking we did so once again, it didn't work. One more week left to review so I'm hoping it'll work. Wish us better luck.

So much for getting a little bit started

I had imagined that the beginning of Aug we would start slowly with just doing devotionals and 30 min math reviews. The first week went pretty good. The 2nd week started out good on Mon, but then dh had Tues off so we went to the fair instead. No devotional. That evening the youth went and did an activity out of state(ILL) and didn't get home until 12:30 am. So Wed the kids slept in, but dh and I got up. Dh went to work and I enjoyed some quiet time for a bit. So pretty much the rest of that week was shot.

This week we thought we'd try again, only 2 of us woke up with mild colds and so this week just went blah. Next week on Thurs is my oldest dd's bday, so chances are we'll try for the week and just skip Thurs. I'm trying to get a bit more review in because the day after Labor Day we start in heavy. ::sigh:: guess we'll see how things go.

Not doing so good

We were starting to do well, and then Tues evening the 2 older kids had a youth activity(along with their dad for transportation) and they didn't get home until 12:30 am Wed. So Wed no previewing and today I forgot. So I guess we'll start again next week.

Today went...

ok. Robert did his 30 min review of past lessons. Natasha and Sarah each had 2 worksheets they worked on. I'm glad we're doing this. Now I know at least what the girls need to work on.

Skipping a day

Well, we kind of skipped a day of review simply because Robert had his last day of volunteering at the library, so the girls and I just spent the morning online having fun. Hopefully tomorrow we'll do better.

We've started....almost

Ok we haven't really started serious school work, but we're doing review work so that once we do start in Sept we'll be ready to get to work. I always know the kids are going to be resistant to it since they've had 4 to 5 weeks of goofing off. Even mom has a hard time getting back into the swing of it. But we need to get refreshed if we're going to do better this year.

So this morning I had each child review some math facts for 30 min. I will gradually increase the time to an hr in a few weeks. Don't want to over load them. :) Not bad for a first day. We tried to do it yesterday, but with needing the lawn mowed and the girls having to help pick up sticks so that ds could, it was too late to start.

So our schedule will mostly look like this:

Mon: get library books ready to take back. Head to the library and renew our selections. Once done we head to lunch and home. Errands or watching school videos in the afternoon.

Tues: math and another subject(depends on our mood) get done. Then lunch and off to art and gym. The city we live in hosts and art and gym class for homeschoolers. It's very nice way to let them make messes, but not in my home. :)

Wed and Thurs are home doing 5 to 6 subjects. We're usually done by 2.

Fri: The 1st and 3rd Fri our homeschool gets together for events or projects in the afternoon. So morning time is spent doing at least 3 to 4 subjects.

So this is a typical week, but as with life, sometimes things change. I hope you enjoy following along in our educational journey.

Starting out

I decided to try and do a blog specifically for our daily, weekly, or even monthly blogging of our daily education. I have another blog that does a little bit of that, but it also talks life.

So this blog will be about our struggles and successes in learning together. I hope you will check back often to see or even make comments or suggestions(nice ones) if you feel the need.
